It's annoying to have to change the size of the preview window just to see the transform controls. Also, when I'm zoomed out enough to finally see the controls again, I can hardly see the video I'm trying to edit.
If I may suggest, in many cases people use the Transform tool when they'd be better off using the Crop tool.
Instead of scaling the video up by whatever percentage, try selecting Crop->Crop.
This lets you zero in on the area you want, and it will automatically fill the frame.
Here is a simple example:
1) Select Crop->Crop
2) Adjust to select the area you want:
3) Press Done - and it's done!
If you need to enlarge the viewer in order to view the details, there is this redish rectangle on the right side.
You can use it to scroll the frame around in the viewer. Just move the cursor over it; the cursor changes to a hand, and by moving this you can see different parts of the frame.
Handy tip for some situations, but it doesn't help when I'm trying to transform the video to be larger (zooming in). My cursor ends up so close to the edge of the screen that even though I can see the control, I have no room to drag it outward. Not sure if that makes sense.
Not sure what you can do aside from getting a bigger monitor.
