Adding family member (strange situation!)

There are a lot of subplots here that aren't important. I'm just trying to convey the relevant info.

My 15yo son has an iPhone. He can't remember his AppleID password. His iPhone is on a family that was setup on my old iPad. I can't remember the passcode, or which Apple ID it is, or the PW for it (it got crushed many months ago). So, I can't get on the iPad to change his settings.

I want to add him to my Mac mini Family, for which I DO remember all the relevant PWs, Apple IDs, etc. When I try to add him, I can't select his birth year of 2007. It only goes back to 2010. And I'm not sure it would work anyway, given that he's on an Apple ID that is already assigned to a different family.

Any wisdom would be much appreciate.

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

First, let's start off by having him reset his Apple ID password using these steps:

"Reset your Apple ID password on your iPhone or other trusted Apple device

Go to Settings.
Tap your name > Password & Security > Change Password.
Follow the onscreen instructions to reset your password.

You can also follow this process on a trusted iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch.

To reset your password on your trusted Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences) > Sign in with your Apple ID (or Apple ID). Then click Password & Security, Change Password, and follow the onscreen instructions."

Once he changes his password he can then attempt to leave the old family sharing and join the new one. Et us know if the issue persists.
