WD My Passport for Mac

I can't get this new My Passport engaged to be my external hard drive. I have used them in the recent past.

What should I do?

Does it appear in Disk Utility?

The first thing anyone should do with a new hard disk drive is to format it using Disk Utility: Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

For reference: Connect and use other storage devices with Mac - Apple Support
