Download app assiated with AppleID

We moved ISP's about 3 years ago.

My parents have run into an issue. We've updated the AppleID, so in the App store it shows current one, but when we try and download an app iPhone asks us to supply credentials for different AppleID.

I assume she forgot she downloaded this app before, but my conclusion is she must of when we were with another ISP...

We no longer have access to that email, account, so we couldn't reset password for that even if we wanted to

I know purched apps are different to the AppleID, not always the same one you signin with, But the problem, in this case, its a 'free' app.

Is there a way I can update so this free app will download on my "current" Apple ID??

I tried signing out and signing back in,,, didn't work it still asks for password for this other AppleID?

Since then, we've reset and restored iOS too.

There was something I read backup and restoring would work (eg either local, or through iCloud, and erasing all content and settings before restore) but I'm kinda skeptical...... That may be the last option, but would prefer others first.

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them.

It sounds like rather than changing the email address associated with the original ID, they created an entirely new Apple ID. If you can’t access the old Apple ID, you’ll have to delete the app and repurchase it using the Apple ID that’s in use now.

I logged into her account, but couldn't see any issues..

I went to iforgot.apple.com just to see weather the old AppleID was valid, and it is NOT

It came back "Not a valid AppleID" which proves it was updated.

I downloaded other purchased apps just a moment ago. and they downloaded perfectly fine, so it must be just this one 'free' app.. If that makes any sense.

it is not on iPhone as it was set up as new .

Its also a free app, not purchased...

Someone suggested looking in "App Library" as it can be deleted from Home screen separately, but that was a no-go... iOS is too old for App Library

I might login to her account just to see if there is any relation to that email at all which may help..
