Currently running Sierra (10.12.6) on a late 2013 iMac with 16GB of memory and just over 100GB of available storage. I want to upgrade the OS to the most recent version my device can support however when I check for updates, both the App store and when checking under “About this Mac”, I’m told there are no available updates.
Does this mean I'm out of luck or just looking in the wrong place?

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 10.14.6
It will place a copy of the installer in your Applications folder and you can use that to create a bootable installer.
