Mail Drop

iMac mid 2011, MacOS 10.13.6, Mail.app 11.5

I used Mail Drop for the very first time yesterday to send a 2.48 GB folder to my sister. Of course after clicking on "Send" in Mail.app it put the mail in "Outbox" and then took a very long time for it to go (obviously due to the attachment size). However, I haven't received any other indication the email was sent as it never appeared in my "Sent" mailbox.

So is this normal for Mail Drop to not give any confirmation that mail with a large attachment has ACTUALLY been sent? Is there any way for me to check on the status of an attachment sent via Mail Drop?

Well, I think the problem was I sent a FOLDER containing the 10 files. My sister never received the email and it never appeared in my Sent mailbox. I shut down my iMac every night so your two suggestions were covered.

I decided to send each of the nine files individually and my test last night with 4 of the files worked. This morning I sent the other 6 files one-at-a-time, waiting until I heard the "whoosh" and the Sent mailbox showed it, before I did the next file. My sister has successfully received all of them. I believe if I had zipped the folder into 1 .zip file, that would have been successful.

Hey there romad,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

When you send an attachment using Mail Drop, your recipient has 30 days to download the content that you sent before it is no longer available. Once the message has been sent, it should appear in your sent folder just like any other message would. If you aren't seeing that message in your sent folder, then you may want to try quitting out of Mail and re-launching it again to see if that may refresh the contents of your email account. Here's how: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support

If you're still not seeing it, try rebooting your Mac and checking again as well since rebooting can often resolve these type of unexpected issues. Here is how to to do that: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

We hope this does the trick for you!

Cheers.

Dang! Wish I'd known about that page as it confirmed what I suspected was the problem. So sending each file one-at-a-time was the way to go unless I had compressed the folder into a .zip file. Being that it took over 20 minutes to send those 6 files, it probably would have taken about 35 minutes for a 2.5GB zipped file to go.
