5/22/23 Safari hangs on Google Sheets

I started to have same issue using safari to open my work google excel, the sheet is not loading properly unless using sheets app, and I can’t search, edit the excel at all. The doc will appear as blurry( safe mode look). Any solutions would be really appreciated

I'm also having the same issue, on both my M1 Mac and Intel MacBook. Not only Google, but Facebook as well (the buttons get all over the place when you click on a photo or a comments section). I hope these sites get them fixed soon.

And yet I use Google Sheets every day with Safari without any problem.

I don't know why you're having a problem but it certainly isn't universal.

I'm really not trying to deny that people are having a problem. Very few people (yes, there are some) waste their time by posting here with problems that aren't real. However, what I have learned over many years of troubleshooting this sort of technology is that it is usually counter-productive to assume one knows the cause of the problem before troubleshooting (and sometimes even after). My only point in posting was to counter the "Google Sheets don't work in Safari full stop" idea that was being asserted. It's obviously a whole lot more complicated than that. It's possible that there is more than one problem. And, because it appears to be a relatively limited problem, it's going to be hard for whoever is at fault to figure out what the problem is. And, because it isn't affecting huge numbers of people, it's also not going to be a priority. Sad but true.

I too had glimmers of hope; loaded a little faster, was able to switch tabs once. But, after a few minutes it was clear that the problem is not solved for me as responsiveness went to zero and CPU use topped 100% and stayed there.

I'm having the issue with large files the smaller files seem to work. Is there a file size setting somewhere?

Same for me too. Came as a surprise actually.

I'm regularly opening some fairly old (circa 2017) files originally created in Excel without any problem. Also some large files created natively in Sheets.

I have the same problem for the last week. We are waiting for corrections from Apple and Google!

Roman-Sozinov I think they will say it is an individual file issue.

Me too! Only on large files, small ones seems to work fine. Chrome has no problem whatsoever, but I need Safari!
