MAC OS Ventura Reinstallation - Minor updates

Hello Team,

Is there a way to reinstall the MAC OS Ventura (or any version) without recent minor updates during the reinstallation.

When I Reinstall the MAC OS Ventura 13.3.1 , it lands on 13.4 (I am erasing my data using disk utility before reinstallation) .

Is this expected , I see some different results on machines , I would like to know what difference make some machine to get latest update and some not during the reinstallation process.

MacBook Air, macOS 12.6

Depending on how you invoke Recovery, you can install the most recent OS or the OS that shipped on the Mac (or closest one available). There is no way to pick and choose the specific version.

Here is an excerpt from How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

Other macOS installation options

When you install macOS from Recovery, you get the current version of the most recently installed macOS, with some exceptions:

  • If you just used Disk Utility to erase your startup disk, you might be offered an earlier compatible version of macOS.
  • On an Intel-based Mac, if you use Option-Command-R during startup, you might be offered the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.
  • On an Intel-based Mac, if you use Shift-Option-Command-R during startup, you might be offered the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available.
  • If the Mac logic board was just replaced during service, you might be offered the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

I believe the first bullet means a previous major OS version, not what you are looking for with 13.3.1 vs 13.4, but I may be wrong. I don't know what it is using to determine the "earlier" version.

If you create a bootable installer with one of the full installers available (13.3.1 still is), I don't think it will update.

You can see what full installers are available with:

softwareupdate --list-full-installers

You can then download the full installer with:

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 13.3.1

Refer to early posting Specific to Creating A Bootable Installer

You will be required using the Terminal Command from a Qualified computer that can run Ventura

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 13.3.1

To perform this action will require booting from a Bootable Installer

The Bootable Installer can Only be performed on an Apple Computer

This will have to be performed from a Qualifying Computer to run the version of macOS to be made on the Bootable Installer.

Example : Bootable Installer of Ventura would have to be done on a computer that Qualifies to run Ventura.

Notation: If the computer being used to perform this action is Too New or Too Old to qualify to run the version of macOS - this computer can not be used.

Alternative is, to gain access to a Qualifying Apple Computer from a family member, friend or associate.

Agree with previous contributor on having the Latest and Greatest offering from Apple

Notation on above command

When this machine was running Ventura 13.3.1(a) ⬅️

The above command would execute but would Not List all the Full Version

Only once 13.4 was installed would it list them

If going back in versions, for some unknown reason, you would have to Create a Bootable Installer and then boot from it

Extra Special Notation regarding the Touch ID equipped Apple Computer.

I have tried both just by

  • Reinstalled by doing MAC OS Recovery assistant

  • and also just by erasing the data using disk utility

Both the methods landed up in 13.4 , So would like to know if we have a way to avoid the updates during the reinstallation (Just to let you know we have some issue with third party apps when they are on 13.4 , So we would like to hold the update for some time)
