Thank you for the information.
The Canon TR8620a is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support. However, this is also one of those cases where the printer manufacturer for some reason shows a system version later than macOS 10.11 under OS Compatibility (see also footnote 23).

You may have to carry out a test in order to determine whether macOS 10.11 El Capitan can be used with AirPrint and this printer (via a manual setup) without special software.

Do you mean footnote 10 (for the Easy-PhotoPrint Editor software) in https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/pixma-tr8620a?color=Black&type=New?
I was referring to OS Compatibility (under General), and to footnote 23.
That is a somewhat confusing web page. The printer manufacturer should be able to say whether the printer as such works with OS X El Capitan (10.11) if AirPrint is used. If necessary, you could perhaps ask the dealer if it would be possible for you to test the printer with your computer before you buy (either at the shop or at home).
Hi,
Do you already have a printer, or are you planning to buy one? If possible, please post back with the exact make and model.
A number of printers still have drivers for macOS 10.11 El Capitan. You would have to study the support/downloads pages for a certain printer. Drivers are (normally) always needed for USB-connected printers
Make sure that you download from an official site for the printer manufacturer only, or from another trustworthy source (such as Apple). There are several third-party "support" sites on the Internet, often with misleading names, so be careful.
If you have (or plan to buy) a printer with support for Apple's AirPrint technology (About AirPrint - Apple Support), additional software/drivers should not be required for macOS, if the printer is connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as the Mac computer. AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections.
AirPrint as such could work with operating system versions as low as Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. However, the printer manufacturer may state that a higher macOS version is needed, often because of extra software provided for setup, ink management or similar purposes. Such software, or a higher system version, may or may not be absolutely necessary.
This is what i see on the link you provided. Internet connection and is compatible with the following operating systems; Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit/32-bit), Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit/32-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit/32-bit), macOS High Sierra v10.13, macOS Sierra v10.12, Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 and Mac OS X El Capitan v10.10.5. Minimum Windows and macOS/Mac OS X requirements are: 2GB of RAM and a monitor
Actually, I'm just needing to replace the printer I have now. I'm looking at this one. PIXMA TR8620a by Canon. It's the only one I can find that seems to be compatible.
