M1 chip in macbook preventing garmin gps for getting map updates

I read where everyone with an Macbook computer with a M1 chip could not update their Garmin GPS products. Think that is my problem but using the Apple connector USB C to computer and regular female USB connector does allow the Garmin GPS to receive a charge. Guess the M1 doesn't prevent that - odd. Does anyone know if there a work around for the problem?
