what is HomeKit
HomeKit is the ‘framework’ that Apple developed for smart-home automation, so that third party devices can communicate in a centralized way. The setup uses the Home app on iPhone or iPad for configuration, and an always-home always-on ‘hub’ device for linking to iCloud. This allows for defining ‘scenes’ and automation.
