It's not clear to me what you mean by #7, #8 and #9.

However, if you mean Windows 7 and Windows 8, then the situation is as follows:

  • Windows 7 and Windows 8: the last version of iTunes that can be installed on these operating systems is iTunes 12.10.11.2
  • the most recent version of iTunes (on the day of writing this) is iTunes 12.12.9.4 (which I updated to yesterday). You cannot install this version on older machines

Be aware that some Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) will not be able to communicate with older versions of iTunes, such as 12.10.11.2.

If you have Windows 10 on your computer, and you downloaded iTunes from the Microsoft Store, updates to it are automatic and you do not need to do anything. There is no there is a Check for Updates option on the Help menu in the Microsoft Store version.

The Apple download version does have the Check for Updates option, which users use to manually fetch the update.

Perhaps it's me, but I'm still not clear what you mean by versions 7, 8 & 9. Do you mean the number of attempts you make to update?

When one updates iTunes, it's one update, to a new version, such as 12.12.5.8. Currently, 12.12.9.4 is the latest version, which I downloaded on 24th May 2023.

But let's step back a bit: which version of iTunes do you currently have on your computer? Look in iTunes' Help/About iTunes menu for the version number. Which version does it state? If there is no About iTunes option, please let us know as it makes a significant difference. Once we have this information, we can make more progress.

Actually, I didn't. I asked which version of iTunes you have, not which version of Windows. Look on iTunes' Help/About iTunes menu. Which version is listed there?

Just above the About iTunes option is the Check for Updates option. If that (or the About iTunes/Version) is not shown in your menu, please say so. It makes a very big difference.

But an equally important question is; where are you getting these updates from? Your only route should be the Help/Check for Updates (but again, if that is not shown, let us know). If there is an update available, iTunes will fetch it and install it, without the need for you to do anything else, so I'm still at a loss to understand what you mean by:

    • 4 iTunes updates
    • version update (7 & 8) etc.
    • download only from toolbox area

Now I think I understand what you're doing, although I don't know why.

However, it is not a good idea to install earlier versions of iTunes if you already have the newer version. Older versions of iTunes may not be able to deal with files created or altered in newer versions of iTunes.

The latest version of iTunes is currently 12.12.9.4. If it not yet available in your region, it should become available soon, so try again later. The recommendation is to always use the latest version in order that you have the latest security features as well as better reliability of the software itself.

any reference to #7 & #8 & #9 all mean the versions of the updates i tried to update on many occasions. this update process always went almost thru the entire downloading process but stopped when i get message stating iTunes couldn't be recognized (etc). eventually i got versions 7 & vers. 8 to finally update & load but when i tried to do version 9 once again i see this message!? how did it finally work for #7 & #8 but failed on version 9 attempt is mystery!? i always like to think i know what am doing and after many of these prior failures i do go to the toolbox: but how i got it to work & now just ailed on vers9?? can apple fix things on their end without my having to mess around with deleting & reinstalling from the cloud type or tricks that i am very afraid to attempt??

when i check 4 iTunes updates a little box appears & i do the load updates protocol as stated in the box instructions. i have windows 10 since you ask. many times i tried & failed in version updates (e.g., 7 & 8) but somehow got it to word even though i followed message to use DOWNLOAD ONLY FROM TOOL BOX AREA and until just recently all attempts no matter what i did or tried were met with failure & at times the rationale was that iTUNES could not be verified!? a few days after i finally succeeded a notification update appears telling me of new version 9. unfortunately this has now met with failure, even as i just do the DOWNLOAD ONLY prompt line instruction.

i have version 12.12.8.2>> i know how to check for updates & i used to have no problems getting & installing new version updates until maybe last year. i tried to circumvent failures by just downloading from the tools drop down box & after many repeated attempts i finally got versions 7 & versions 8 to quit choking on the install update process; but when i saw there was new update 9 available i once again met with message iTUNES has invalid signature & download has been removed. prior to these messages telling me of all these past failures i could also sometimes see the actual install progress/process & at times it would just choke & not even move. why it finally worked on version 8 i not know. when i tried version update 9 the failure message started up again. i only get & perform update attempts thru my iTUNES & not know of any other way to get updates except bby manually checking for them

periodically i check for available updates on iTUNES and/or get message stating updates available, so i not understand your reply! i do not insatall previous updates i only do what the messages regarding updates tell me to do. in the past i always was me with failure installing whatever version my computer told me & these attempts always failed until just a few weeks ago! when i got another message stating version 9 available for download i tried to load it & met again with failure & message telling me why! i am somewhat techno-challenged & would never try to do anything fancy other than what computer tells me to do! after many failures on this #9 issue i also tried just downloading from my TOOLS box! this also failed many times which is what prompted me to ask for some much needed HELP
