My Apple TV has been working fine the last 2years I've had it. I used it fine this morning. I've just gone to turn it on this afternoon and the screen is black yet I can still hear sounds coming from it.

Try another HDMI cable and port first. Next try disconnecting Apple TV (power and HDMI) and wait 10 secs before reconnection. If it still persists contact Apple support.
