Why no Reply to Jason Golden Author User level: Level 2 194 points Jul 13, 2020 1:47 PM in response to Jason Golden? I had a similar incident, now almost three (3) years later with a runaway AppleSpell (>100% CPU usage), email hanging up, contacts hanging up, all somehow related to the iCloud on my iMac (2009, High Sierra, 10.13.6). My guess was something to do with my email in the iCloud, email worked but, it would hang trying to complete addresses, or when sending out the return answer (address already entered).

Read multiple pages, e.g.,re-build different .plist files (i.e. moved folder, file to desktop so start-up would re-build the unfound item), eliminated key aliases, dropped email accounts, all did not work except, eliminated email folders on iCloud but, that left me with incomplete files, so not a real fix.

Finally, the fix for me (and it makes no sense), was to save an archive of contacts off of my LapTop and reload my DeskTop (early 09 iMac) with that archive. This allowed to use my email accounts on the iCloud -> back to normal.

Don't know why the CPU started to overload when email stopped working properly, don't know why what I did fixed it -> would have liked to have had a description of how the software is suppose to work with dependencies.

So Apple, why didn't you answer Jason Golden's questions? That maybe would have saved me some time.

P.S. My experience says it is usually the last change you made that caused the problem -> according to this dictum, the password holding app made the problem. I did remove it but, no change, the problem persisted.

You have removed .plists from user library ? deleting .plist can corrupt mail app , eliminated key aliases , eliminated email folders which email folders ?

Your contacts , email and other apps are hanging up .

The mail application is corrupted .

If you are using secondary authentication account in which three answers for security questions , date of birth , rescue mail address and its password is added , and iCloud Keychain is set up in Mac , make sure you must have iCloud Keychain verification code in records as it will be required once you add gmail or whatever services used and iCloud account .

( a ) Open system preferences > iCloud > the box for keychain is checked , click on options , click on change security code .

( b ) Click on security code > enter new code in the fields and click on next , you have to enter the new code for the second time and click on next .

In the next window the country code is written , enter your trusted mobile number …….and click on done .

Again enter your Apple ID password to update your account settings and click on ok , hence the code is changed , so write down this code in a safe place .

Note : once the code is generated then remove mail accounts and once again add it , make sure must have correct credentials like Apple ID password , web mail address and its password in your records .

It's a workaround create a new admin account in user and groups Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

And add mail accounts Add email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
