I have just purchased the new Macbook Air. I want to sign into it to activate my email ID but I do not wish to fill the photo app with all my photos and use all the storage up!
Can you tell me the best way to do this? I use iCloud as well.
I only want this new laptop to store\ edit new photos should I wish to use it.

If you do not want Photos to download your photos from iCloud, do not enable iCloud Photos in the Settings > Apple ID > iCloud. Enable only the iCloud features you want to use.

Yes, you can use the Photos.app to manage your photos and add adjustments without iCloud Photos.
To access your photos in iCloud you can use your iCloud webpage at www.icloud.com .
Got it ~ and if I wish to add new photos not from there I can still use the app itself ?
I might just use it for editing Air Drop then.
Just wish to keep this laptop clean of too many photos using up my memory and storage.
