MacBook Air M2 - Blinking Screen & Unresponsive Keyboard & Touchpad

Had a very unusual issue earlier.

Was using the MacBook whilst charging and it had reached full charge.

Input was using a bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse, and all of a sudden the screen kept flashing on and off.

Furthermore, both the MacBooks keyboard and touchpad were unresponsive (the Bluetooth devices kept working)

Did a complete power off and on and at the login screen, the screen kept cycling on and off again and the MacBook keyboard and touchpad were still unresponsive.

In desperation I unplugged the MagSafe charger and low and behold touchpad and keyboard functionality were restored and the screen stopped flashing.

It hasn't happened since and the MagSafe charger is plugged back in to see if it happens again.

Mac is running macOS Ventura 13.4 and has only 7 battery cycles

Anyone else experienced this or before? Or any ideas what may have caused this weird screen, keyboard and touchpad glitch?

Just come off the phone with Apple support (very knowledgable lady) and one thing she did point out during our conversation was this started happening after the Ventura 13.4 update, and not before.

Im still a little suspicious of the amphetamine app, as ironically its sole purpose is to keep the machine awake and if it had glitched then perhaps it had caused this issue? Gonna see if it happens a third time whilst still having this app installed, and if so uninstall to see if the glitch re-occurs

Last update...

Even after the factory reset, it exhibited the same problem again.

However... ironically, left the app caffeinated running one evening, which completely flattened the battery to 0%

... since then its never glitched / failed to wake up since.

Presumably it was the complete battery drain which fixed the problem?!

Regardless, am one happy chappie :-)

It happened again this evening. I work nightshift from home and to conserve power, reduce the brightness down to zero when on a break (use an app called amphetamine to prevent MacBook from sleeping as have a voip app which needs to be running)

I closed the lid earlier as was working on a different machine for a few hours, however on return to the MacBook and opening the lid, the keyboard backlighting was off and there was no response from the keyboard, touchpad or screen

Power cycled several times, and removed and re-inserted the MagSafe charger several times to no avail.

After several forced power cycles, it came back to life, but not after the screen was blinking on and off for several minutes and again keyboard and touchpad were unresponsive.

Im going to book a support case with apple support after my shift, as it happening twice in as many days is of some concern!

Yup, it keeps happening even with amphetamine removed and a similar app called caffeine installed.

Withholding a complete factory reset, I can't rule out a minor hardware fault or perhaps this particular build of ventura?

Had another macbook air M2 admittedly this was back in January, admittedly with an older version of ventura and this NEVER happened!

Did a factory reset this morning and re-installed all of my apps etc. Was on standby most of the afternoon with the lid closed and on raising the lid this evening, instantly came to life.

Am getting good vibes that it was a slightly corrupted os upgrade and since fresh install its been flawless.

Time will tell, and will report back in the coming days...
