MacBook Pro 2009 battery flashes

Hi, I bought a new battery for my MacBook Pro 2009 and after installation and resetting smc snd nvram I followed the instructions to calibrate the battery. I left the battery to drain over night with the screen on and in the morning the computer is dead (as expected) but the battery indicator bottom flashes instead of being off when I push it. What does that mean? I was expecting the battery drains 100% when I left it on over night. Does that flashes mean the battery is empty?
