My iPhone 12 PM is completely scratched on the sides. It’s been in n otter box since the second I bought it. This is my 12th iPhone. I’ve never seen such a thing. It looks like it has been dragged behind a car on asphalt without a case. I’m apprehensive about getting a new iPhone if they are this “delicate”. Is there a better way to protect? Is there anyway to fix it?

Simply putting on a case will not scratch the iPhone. Unless, of course, there is grit in the case or on the phone when you start.
It sounds as if you got some grit inside the Otterbox case. I've seen that happen. However, it doesn't affect the performance of the phone.
It’s from putting the case on. Apple should make a sturdier product that can withstand putting a case on without scratching.
