Iphone wired hotspot disconnects from windows when downloading files

Greetings,

This is a somewhat perplexing issue that i have not found a fix for and thought i’d bring to light here.

I have been connecting my Iphone to my windows pc as an ethernet hotspot for years now with no issues.

Recently i have upgraded from an iphone XS to the iphone 12 Pro, and the problem has arose since then.

The issue is when i connect my hotspot via USB, the hotspot works fine, up until i download anything or i get a facetime call, as soon as the download begins - i get a “No internet connection message”. This issue has never occurred on a previous apple device.

i have tried connecting my friends’ iphones to my pc and the issue was gone. The issue also arises when connecting my iphone hotspot to other computers aswell. So i have localized the problem to be with my iphone and not with the computer.

I have currently tried all of the following:

  1. Updating my iphone to the latest ios version (IOS 16.5)
  2. Updating my windows to the newest version
  3. Updating my itunes to the newest version
  4. Deleting my VPN off the iphone completely
  5. Reseting my network settings both on the iphone and on the computer.
  6. Using different apple iphone cables
  7. Restarting both devices
  8. Turning the hotspot off and on again
  9. Changing my hotspot’s password (even though connecting hotspot through USB does not require a password).

This issue has been present for over 2 months now and has only arose after upgrading from the iphone XS to the iphone 12 Pro.

If anyone could provide some insight if this is a hardware issue on my iphone or a software issue that i could have dealt with i would greatly appreciate it.

Despite your attempts at various methods, you have yet to explore the crucial step of utilizing the SIM card from your iPhone 12 Pro in alternative devices. This is because the functionality of a Hotspot is contingent upon the carrier rather than the specific device in use.

Please see the pic below to make it clearer that Hotspot is enabled by a Carrier on one SIM and not by the other Carrier in the same iPhone (Dual SIM).

Use these steps first

Restart the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot and the other device that needs to connect to Personal Hotspot. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS. On the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot, go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings.

If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi

Also, check the following

  1. Network coverage and stability
  2. Data Balance
  3. On your windows (See if WiFi Auto Joins is enabled)
  4. Also, check if you have any stronger WiFi signal around your computer.

Ask the Carrier to change the SIM if nothing works.

After having followed your advice, the sim was placed in a different apple device, and the internet worked with no problems whatsoever, further proving that the issue is directly related to the iphone 12 Pro.

Additionally, i have only 1 sim card in the device and no Esim on the device - so that would not be an issue.

Given that i am connected through the apple iphone cable and the hotspot is being used as an ethernet, there is no issue of distance or connectability, i have even tried using different apple cables to no avail.
