How to create a smart album in Photos with NO keywords so I can focus on adding them to those?

I did find a discussion and someone suggested the answer but when I tried it I could do it == basically it was to have the Keyword is not ANY but there is no such choice in my ver. 7 Photos library == thanks.

It used to work for me on Monterey as well, Victoria.it is strange, that you are not seeing "Any" in the list of keywords.

Do you have PowerPhotos installed? Then you can easily find the photos without keywords by displaying all photos in list view and clicking the header of the keywords volume to sort your photos by the keywords. The photos without any keyword will appear at one end of the sorted list. The free trial version of PowerPhotos will suffice for this.

There is in V 8.0 of Photos that comes with Ventura:

I don't have access to Monterey and V 7.0 so can't experiment with it. However, there is a way you can do what you want but it would be some work:

1 - create a sort album with Keyword is xxxx.

2 - add another keyword, yyyy to it.

3 - change the xxxx to the next keyword and repeat #2

4 - continue this until all current keywords have the keyword yyyy added to them.

Create a new smart album Keyword is not yyyy.

That will give you all photos that do not have a keyword assigned to it. When you assign a keyword also assign yyyy to it so it will be removed from the smart album.

Did your Apple representative test this on an own Mac with Monterey, Victory, or did you only test on your mac?

in I have seen the "Any" option in Monterey too, if I remember correctly.

But I am usually using my trusted PowerPhotos to sort the photos by the keywords column. This way I can spot easily all photos without any keywords, because hey will appear at the top of the list of photos.

In PowerPhotos:

  • View > As List
  • View > Show Columns > Keywords
  • Click the column header Keywords to sort by the keywords

To access a photo without keywords in Photos, ctrl-click it in PowerPhotos and use "Reveal in Photos"

Are you seeing the keyword choice "Any", Victoria, at the top of the list of keywords? It may take some time to appear, if your keyword list is long. ? Then set the middle part of the keyword rule to "is not" and then select "Any".

The wording will depend on your system language. With my primary system language set to German, "Any" will be shown as "Beliebig".

Try this download link - it is definitely a Mac app and should work on Monterey: https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos/

I have been using it for many years as a companion to Photos for Mac - particularly to get the table view with the metadata in columns or the metadata below the thumbnails. It helps to get some of the features back, that we lost with de miss of Aperture.

To create a smart album in the Photos app without relying on keywords, you can use other criteria such as date, location, or other metadata. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open the Photos app on your device.
  2. Go to the "Albums" tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on the "+" icon to create a new album.
  4. Select "New Smart Album" from the options.
  5. Give your smart album a name that reflects its purpose.
  6. In the criteria section, select the criteria that you want to use for organizing your photos. For example, you can choose criteria like "Date," "Location," "Camera Model," or other metadata options that are relevant to your photo collection.
  7. Configure the criteria to match your specific needs. For instance, if you want to focus on adding keywords to photos taken in a specific location, select the "Location" criterion and choose the desired location from the options available.
  8. Save the smart album, and it will be created with the selected criteria.

Now, you have a smart album that will automatically populate based on the criteria you specified. This allows you to easily locate and focus on adding keywords to the photos within that album without relying on keywords initially.

Keep in mind that the available criteria options may vary depending on the version of the Photos app and the operating system you are using for further you can visit our site https://currentpackages.com/

I'm on Monterey and not moving to Ventura for awhile -- and I did try to see if there is an 'any' in Monterey [the poster in 2022 who asked the Q was on v6] - there was no indication it was in Monterey - unfortunately evidently it's not in v7 - I know I can do what Old Toad [thank you] suggested but unfortunately I have lots of keywords in Photos now = but am thinking the easy way to get rid of some is broaden the description or making it simpler - for instance I had 3 relevant to flowers so got rid of 2 of them and have 1 keyword for the flowers. Sounds like a good project for this weekend = thanks much.

Is there any specific reason you're not upgrading to Ventura.

Ventura has had 14 different versions since it was first released as a beta. I've run them all on an Intel 27" 2017 iMac with little or not problems. In its 14th version, the 13th was the public release of 13.4, it is faster and very stable.

That being said, if you'e installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac I would remove them all according to the developer's instructions before upgrading to Ventura. They all are totally unnecessary and do nothing but lighten your bank account and take up system resources.

I have Mojave on 2 machines to assist with dealing with my Aplibraries [boy am I going to miss using Aperture!!!!!!!!]. and Monterey just added to 2 newer machines --= I'm still getting used to Monterey and frankly avoid being an early adopter == I don't need [I think] Ventura - I'm on 2021 Mini M-1 and also MBPro M-1 but see no real need to upgrade, that's why - plus every time I upgrade the OS other apps I use either get kicked off or won't work = right now everything I have works and I'm loathe to upgrade if it's not needed - thanks for the info tho on your use.

I was able to download Power Photos but it's an iPad and iPhone app =- it downloaded on my Mini but doesn't really work == I know I can look at my pics on my iPad but my 27" screen works better for me == but in List view it may not matter == I'll try again on the iPad == I guess as long as I apply a keyword to a pic on the iPad it'll transfer to my desktop and laptop Photos libraries???
