Hotmail not functioning

Every time I load up Outlook in Safari on my iMac and open Hotmail, everything is displayed as expected.

When I select an individual email, everything vanishes except that one single email on the screen. I can scroll and click on links but can't do anything else with it; the screen back or forwards buttons don't work either.

Is there a setting that needs to change to enable full functionality, or can Hotmail not be accessed through Safari? There are no problems with any other server.
