How to autoplay next episode of an Apple Podcast?

I would like Apple Podcast to automatically play the next episode in a series, but I cannot figure out how to do this.

Currently, when Apple Podcast is done playing one episode of a series, e.g., Wondery+, instead of playing the next episode it cues up to something entirely different, or stops playing altogether. Then I have to go through the process of searching through menus until I find the next episode I want.

I've searched online, but the instructions I've found so far don't appear to correspond to the Apple Podcast version I'm using. This should be simple, right? Any suggestions? Thanks.

How to choose the order that episodes play

When you follow a podcast, you can play episodes in order, beginning with the newest or oldest episode.

Open the Podcasts app.
On your iPhone, go to the Library tab, then tap Shows. On your iPad, go to Library in the sidebar and tap Shows.
Tap the show to see its information page.
Tap the More button in the top-right corner, then tap Settings.
Tap Oldest To Newest or Newest To Oldest.

After an episode ends, the next episode of that podcast plays automatically. To turn this off, go to Settings > Podcasts, then turn off Continuous Playback.

Before iOS 17.1.1, I don’t have to go through the ‘selecting and adding to queue’ process. I simply pick an episode at Library, when it ends, the next episode will be continue automatically. But now I have to create a playlist list which is time-consuming.

I search this up about five times and it shows me the same thing or does it say Google podcast and I have a Apple iPad so it never shows me what I want the app that I’m looking at is Podcasts it’s a purple app with a podcast sign on it does anybody have this problem because I do nothing shows up I can never do anything on it just never does anything and it’s useless. The Internet really needs to add that because I’ve been sitting here like five minutes and I want to go to bed.

SOLUTION: (iOS 18)

Open up the Apple Podcasts APP
On the top, you should see the "Up Next" section
For the "Shows" you DON'T want in the queue, long press on the three dots "..." icon on the bottom right corner.
Select "Remove from Up Next"
Once you have a single "Show" left in the "Up Next" section, that show will playback continuously.

Sorry, I can’t help you. At one point I thought I’d figured out the logic of Apple Podcast, but apparently not; I’ve given up trying.

i think it's a bug of new os or sth if your Up Next does not work and apple should seriously address this issue

Disregard. It worked for the podcast I was listening to but not for the next one I started.

Making a station has worked for me but it stopped working and know I can't get it working again. My queue is empty 🤷‍♂️

I have all of these settings set as described here but the "queue" takes over and plays an episode from a seemingly random different podcast I follow. Please fix/advise!!

oh wow, this is totally the solution that worked for me. And I agree that it's a totally useless feature for podcasts to be shuffled.

I open podcast app on iPhone. There is no “up next” section showing. Could you be more specific as how to get there ? Episodes still not showing in que or playing next as I would like. Tks

seems to have improved by:

1) turning on Continuous Playback in Settings -> Podcast

2) removing all in queue

3) at podcast episode -> click "..." -> Settings -> Oldest to Newest

still... what a mess
