CarPlay not recognizing contacts

I’ve been reading the forums without any luck using the sync contacts.

so I use Apple Maps, ask Siri for directions and get. “Sorry, I can’t find a contact.”

but if I use Siri directly (outside of Maps) it finds it.

of course Google Maps has no issues.

just want to use CarPlay and Apple Maps.

carplay is being hosted on an android tablet.

I have an iPhone 11 running 16.5 I think.

Troubleshooting CarPlay:

A. Driver's Manual:

Read your driver's manual to find out more about syncing this.

B. Try being in Park:

For many, they must have their automobile in park to get this to all pair.

"CarPlay not recognizing contacts: Thanks thelittles. yes I’ve done all that. I think the weird part is how Siri in maps doesn’t find it. But Siri outside of Maps does?!?

You are welcome.

Report this as a Bug to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when this all began, and how you have troubleshot it, this far. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

It may not be a bug.

If this feature never existed, then it is not a bug, but rather a feature yet to be added to the iOS. So, just in case, make a Feature Request to Apple.

Have you already found a solution for this?

The behavior seems to be very strange:

  • on the iPhone itself I can enter a contact name in Apple Maps and Apple Maps will suggest the corresponding contact from by contacts.
  • during Apple CarPlay I can ask Siri through voice activation (hey Siri) and/or manual voice activation to navigate to one of my contacts and it is working
  • but when I have Apple Maps opened on Apple CarPlay and I am using the manual text search or the Siri search, it will not suggest the persons in my contacts. Even though I have entered the full name.

Is this a bug or working as designed?

Kind regards

Dominik
