Finding lost airpods with Find My

I lost my airpods 2 yesterday and suspect someone took them from my bag. Will Find my give the latest location of my airpods getting connected to a device somewhere even if i’m not in Bluetooth range? Also, if i go to a place where i suspect them to be, will find my promptly notify me for being in bluetooth range or will i have to wait in that location for my airpods to get connected to a device?

I'm sure that if you're in the bluetooth range, you should be able to "play sound" in the findmy app to locate your airpods.

About FindMy and AirPods:

Note that the location shown is only that of the last device these are pairs with was most-recently on the Web. This is because AirPods are not assigned their own IP Address.

Without lots of walls, not that Bluetooth an only go up to 30 feet away.
