getting the max download speed on iphone 13 pro max phone

Hi I am having an issue with getting the max download speed on iphone 13 pro max phone. I am connecting to wireless network and only seeing 80 Mbps download speed even thought 600 Mbps is available. In fact the download speed on the cell network is slightly better at 105 Mbps. I had a technician at my home and he was getting closer to 600 Mbps with his iphone

I received the following simular advice " Check if your iPhone is connected to the 5GHz band of your Wi-Fi network, which is faster than the 2.4GHz band. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > tap on the 'i' symbol next to your network > check the 'Radio' setting. If it's on 2.4GHz, try to switch to a 5GHz network if it's available."

However when I do select the "i" next to wireless network name I do not find radio settings to investigate further...

So, your Wi-Fi network choice is only one name, correct? In that case, it is a simultaneous dual band wireless network.....meaning that the same wireless network name is used for both the slower 2.4 GHz signals and faster 5 GHz signals.

In that case, it is up to the Wi-Fi device to select the "best" signal.....either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.....with which to connect. The big question here is what is "best"?

If "best" means the strongest signal, then the phone will connect at the slower 2.4 GHz rate....because those signals are stronger than 5 GHz signals. Top speed on most 2.4 GHz networks is about 130 Mbps. I'm guessing that is how your phone is connecting right now.

If "best" means the fastest signal, then the phone connects to the higher speed 5 GHz band.

Given a choice, most Wi-Fi devices will connect to the strongest signal.....not the fastest signal.

If this is what is happening on your network, the only way to make the phone connect to the faster signal might be is to set up the Wi-Fi router to provide separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks with different names and "point" the phone at the 5 GHz network. So, the 2.4 GHz network has one wireless network name and the faster 5 GHz network has a different name. Then, it's easy to select the network that you want to use.

But....there are some downsides to using 5 GHz.....so things are not quite as easy as it might appear.

So, before we throw in the towel on your current network, let's see if we can get the phone to connect to the faster 5 GHz band.

Power off the phone and wait 10-15 seconds

Move the phone to the same room as your Wi-Fi router

Power up the phone and let it connect

What kind of speed do you see when you run a few speed checks?

Your Wi-Fi speed depends on how far you are from your router. Position yourself close to the router (within 3 meters or 10 feet) and check your speed. As you move away from the router the speed will drop, and if you get too far away to connect to the 5GHz wi-Fi network and it switches to the 2.4GHz network it will drop significantly, to under 100 mbps.

Thank you for your reply I am trying to understand the speed when connected to "my wireless network" which has 600 Mbps capability. but to answer your question its 5G capable

and which carrier are you referring to Tmobile for phone or Spectrum for internal network. I can do speed test on windows machine connected to router directly and get 615 Mbps today download speed.

Hi Lawrence,

I am well connected in my home I have 4 WAP which are linked together "Ubiquiti Network"

I just rand speed test for Bob standing directly next to WAP I get 72-90 Mbps.

I can not tell if my network is 5GHz wi-Fi network or 2.4GHz network, but I had a technician at my home installing this and he was able to get close to 600 Mbps on his phone. and since I do not see 2 network choices for my network I am thinking it must be 5GHz only based on test technician did do.

Change the name and password of the wireless network that your router is providing to create a new network and restart the network.

If you have multiple access points, turn off all of them except the "main" router.

Locate the phone in the same room as the main router, connect to the new network and run a few checks.

If OK, power up another access point and move the phone to that area and check connections there. If OK, power up another access point, etc.

If the phone still connects at 80 Mbps, then your phone and router just can't along together. One of them will have to go.
