Connecting Canon ImageClass MD656Cdw laser printer & Mac Studio via WiFi

Just got a Canon ImageClass MF656Cdw color laser printer to replace an aging Epson Ink Tank printer. Connected the printer to my home WiFi network and installed the latest Canon printer and scanner drivers for the MF656Cdw on my Mac Studio computer.

Without doing anything special my iPhone was able to send a photo from the Photos App to the printer, which printed a perfect copy. But my Mac Studio computer, also connected to the same home WiFi network does not see the printer. I'm sure it has to be a setting most likely on the computer. I followed the Canon setup video step by step and the printer is supposed to show up in Systems Settings/Printers & Scanners when I select Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax but there is nothing there to select. Mac Studio is on OS Ventura 13.3.1.

Mac Studio, macOS 13.3

<< Connected the printer to my home WiFi network >>

At the printer, did you provide:

network-name to join

Network-password

use DHCP or use Manual IP address and specify address.

at the Mac, did you:

system preferences > network > WiFi

(advanced) > TCP/IP ...

... set IPv6 to 'link-local ONLY', not OFF

IPv6 is used by the Mac to 'Discover' available resources (such as printers) on your network.

Once your Mac can discover it, the printer will appear in the 'Add-a-Printer' pane.

Printer has network name and PW. No option to set DHCP or ip address.

The configuration for my Mac's system preferences are different. TCP/IP does not show under WiFi but is in several other locations starting with ethernet where I set IPv6 to "link-local ONLY. Now the printer shows up as a bonjour printer when I select Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax. I add TMOBILE-952A for Location and select Canon MF650C Series for Software. Then at the last step I get a message "an error occurred while trying to add selected device" with no details of why and printer does not get added. However your recommendation did get me one step closer than I was yesterday.

Thank You

I still have my Epson Ink Tank printer as a backup but I will contact Canon technical support tomorrow. If they don't have an answer then The printer will quickly be returned to Amazon and I'll look at Brother or HP. My choice of Canon was based on user feedback from people who actually bought the printers. There were virtually no complaints from Canon users, while a lot of HP users complained about how badly made their printers were and how quickly they stopped working. Brother is a little behind Canon in user satisfaction so they would be the next best choice if this cannot be solved.
