You should never install ANY Virus Scanners (including MalwareBytes) that scan your files, non-stop.
Malwarebytes is the best-respected one-time virus scanner for the Mac (after the Apple built-in scanner, GateKeeper). But installing Virus scanner to scan non-stop is a Big Mistake.
--------
The Mac restricts 'what can become exectuable' and requires your Admin password to consider making a proposed item executable. The item's Developer Certificate [for authenticity] and Notarization [for not hacked since Notarized] are checked, and it is scanned for known virus patterns at that moment, before being placed on the locked, checksummed, System Volume.
Feel free to download whatever Virus code you wish. It will not be spontaneously breaking in to your modern Macintosh.
