my external monitor keeps waking itself up in a loop after Ventura 13.4 update.

I have 16" M1 max, I updated yesterday to Ventura 13.4 and now my external monitor keeps waking itself up in a loop. It's not displaying the login screen but the back lights go on and off in a loop with a message letting me know that the display port is activated.

I have troubleshooted all the power management settings, disconnected all external peripherals, bluetooth devices without any success. I have to manually turn off my monitor for it to stay off. Extremely annoying, Anyone else experiencing this?

Hey there Mika_Chan,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. You mentioned this began after macOS 13.4 was installed, but does this same issue occur with the built-in display after setting your Mac to sleep?
  2. Have you checked with the manufacturer of the external display to see if there are any new firmware updates, or even a new driver update as you recently updated to macOS 13.4? Firmware updates can often resolve unexpected issues. Here are some instructions that may help you to contact the manufacturer: Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support
  3. If you can test another display with your Mac, or even the same external display with a different Mac, what are the results? This will help us to isolate the issue further and possibly determine what's causing this.

Cheers!

We appreciate the update Mika_Chan,

You mentioned that you receive an alert regarding the DisplayPort, and that the monitor works without issue when connected to a different Mac. Have you tried using a different connection type for the monitor? For example, are you able to check to see if the same thing occurs when using HDMI?

If you don't have that option, do you have a different display you can connect to this device? This can help us rule out issues with the DisplayPort itself.

If not, or the same thing occurs, reach out to Apple directly for additional assistance at: Get Support

Have a lovely day!

Hello Jeff,

I have been updating my FW to the latest version. The display behaves normally when connected to another MacBook.

It definitely has to do with the update to 13.4. Before this update, I've had no issue with the display.

I have seen on reddit a few people going through the exact same thing with different display brands than mine.

All the best.

I have the same issue, with an LG Ultrawide monitor, with M1 MacBook Pro. It is super annoying that Apple has zero care about the thing to solve. I don't want to use HDMI either, as the USB-C is 200% more convenient as it can charge the MacBook and transfer audio and video in the same time. I prefer to have a proper solution, not a workaround with HDMI. Refreshing softwares and firmwares obviously useless so far.
