Hi there, I have an m1 mini, 12.9, iMac intel booting from ssd today, iPad Pro 12.9 m2 NEED HELP????

Hi there,

BTW I have aphasia, plus I won't recall writing the following stream of mind. I had a brain injury - a brain abscess which left a lot of permanent issues. I apologize for my loquaciousness - to many words that took hours to write.

I have layered bunch of questions and I am hoping people can advise me? I am a full time digital artist and sound design lover and have both a drawing monitor plus latest iPad Pro m2 12.9. I do everything on the iPad and have for years since first iPad Pro. Finally, some depth has been given to the device though music devices have been awesome for a while. I had just bought logic for the m1 mini which is an amazing device that blew my mind. It's almost as fast as my iPads. Instant is what I was used to, but I bought one of the last Intel iMacs in 2019. NOW, it's fast because I bought a couple of 2 tb TB 3 ssd drives from pluggable and two usb4/TB4 hubs when on sale in Nov 22. I just got to it today. I booted Ventura 13.2.1 on it and it faster than it ever was.

I need to combine the Mac mini with iMac as 1st monitor and Huion 16" drawing tablet as well. Luckily I extended the tablet with a 12' cord - one female to male TB 3/4 to another and the drawing monitor works great - and it's connected to the hub! I checked a lot of boxes and read a lot.

I also use iPad with Luna Display little usb c plugged in to computer or hub work in other rooms etc. I could connect mini to iMac and use a good TB thunderbolt 4 cord but here I'm lost. I have a 1 tb drive on iMac that something was duplicating in ? creative cloud crashed over and over and I read that it was a big prob. Once before, I had whole system go and had to do everything new but of course had cloud backup. Something was going on then so I tried to pick and choose what to put back but could not figure it out?

I can now use the iMac as a new computer and just install some thing I hope? I don't want it to again go wrong. I have things like ableton live 10 but didn't like it then, now maybe, the entire adobe creative cloud suite, Logic Pro I just bought a week prior to announced launch of it on iPad. I was thinking initially of just doing all work on mini, and use iMac as screen but it would now be wasted if I did that since its as fast as the mini due to the ssd. I bought the same ssd and hub for mini but they can chain together.

How do I access the main drive slowly and choose what I want to move? It is odd that I had problems, all my photos use iCloud, creative cloud, and 2 more services and audio is on external. I do have documents but everything is iPad and iCloud. iMac would barely move, It looked like there were 30 levels deep in files from my user name down with duplicated mess. Maybe music on one and art on another? I got the 16g ram mini with 250g on sale for 600 or so at ADORAMA and of course paid a lot for 2tb ssd and hub but it's all working without actually booting from external. That's the same situation btw, a ton of different opinions on how to do it and if you should or should not! I would like to because I just read about the issues down the road it might face and then no drive no mini. I am using a bedroom studio with a new tall desk with shelves - got a new mini freak which I love but have to put under or to side then I have rolling laptop stand from LEVO with iPad holder mouse and phone. Plus the arm holder for IPAD amazing things from LEVO - all so I can work on anything I want by turning a bit? It's stupid but right now its in two rooms music with iMac in office and KRK speakers, but will be moved tomorrow. No need for using 3 different audio in devices or whatever.

Hi there, it sounds like maybe we need to setup File Sharing at least, but to start...

We need to see what all is running & machine specs, a report from this will not display any personal info...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

You mentioned using the iMac ("one of the last Intel iMacs") as a primary (1st) monitor for the Mac Mini. That's not going to work. Those Macs do not support Target Display Mode (a feature on some early iMacs that let you use them as monitors) – and the M1 Mini doesn't support using an iMac with TDM as one of its displays.

You say that you're using your iPad as a second display with the help of Luna Display. Another way that you can use some recent iPads as second displays for recent Macs is with Sidecar. I'm not saying that you must switch – or that you would necessarily want to; just making you aware of the option.

Yes, they do, but only in specific circumstances. If a question has gone unanswered for more than 12 hours in certain forums and the question can be answered primarily by a referral to a support article, the Community Specialists, who are Apple employees, will answer. They are sort of a back up to the users. One forum you're likely to see them in is the iPhone forum.

Hello and thank you for replying!

I am new to anything like this but should have probably talked to others since my white plastic laptop melted twice? It’s like new btw but needs the ___? I forgot but it used to be super expensive, now they are cheap but why??

I have not asked for help or spoken to anyone online or off, ( ever!) because I typically either figure it out or read.

I am fortunate that I remember most things from before the brain abscess like my tech addiction and can now use my right arm and hand again after a lot of rehab. Btw, I have to read things over a few times and copy into notes to grasp it and remember.

Are you actually with apple or a third party that knows everything?

EtreCheck, can I trust this and do both macs need it and does it work on both intel and silicon ? I use my IPad as my primary device by keeping Luna open on side, but I am excited to finally use the IMac screen especially. I can switch between Mac and iPad using Luna and use Magic Keyboard trackpad or several other trackpads and mouse options.

I have too many things, and work in a comfortable swivel chair because it all surrounds me.

sorry, I can go off into rabbit holes.

So is this Apple discussions in app form? Should I open it on either the mini or iMac then get the app there? Obviously the iMac right?

Jun 2, 2023 2:45 PM in response to Blamemrken

hi, how will the app be able to capture anything about internal Fusion Drive if I use the app on the external ssd drive?

I saw the link to your site and wonder if you do this regularly out of enjoyment or is it monetized for you somehow? It seems like you are a nice knowledgeable person who possibly just does this because it’s enjoyable to help and know the most? I’d like to believe that.

I saw how I could setup a Mac in target mode? That would not let me use both computers to their fullest right? I know I can connect to each other over network but why? I stopped using the iMac because I didn’t know how to maintain it and didn’t know how to clean it up.

thanks again,

Most of the people posting here are other Apple customers. I don't know if any Apple employees post here in official roles as representatives of Apple. So far, I haven't seen any indication of that (unlike on the Adobe site, where you sometimes see Adobe employees post with badges indicating that they are employees).

I appreciate that, but I am feeling more comfortable. I was just finding various helpful suggestions randomly then shortly after finding contradictory information. I didn’t know how or where I was seeing these comments but must have seen that they are regularly generated here. I didn’t realize I wrote so much. I have a brain injury and have to screen shot or save notes. I had a hard time finding this site again but saved it this time and will look daily and try to contribute if possible.

thank you

Thank you,

I appreciate you responding! I actually was one of the first to buy the Luna to use with their art app astropad. It was half the price or so. Side car is great when I am using a drawing monitor next to iPad - depending on how things are connected, I also use a 4K tv as a monitor in the room as the iPads second screen either airplay but better hdmi with adapters all ready to go - mini, iPad or windows 11 laptop.

I used iMac remotely from other room but that’s absurd so finally got new desk etc for bedroom office/ studio and this is what biggest issue is- yikes

Heck I have some creative cloud apps on a thinkpad I upgraded as well which I used with drawing monitor and 4K tv before I bought the m1 Mac mini which is amazing…

I try to stay up to date on all things related

I apologize that I don’t have the hang of this but I’d like your direction if you have time. Someone suggested i break things down and ask one question at a time. I agree and will keep me focused

#1 to get started I will follow your suggestion and download the app you mentioned on both computers by morning.

I will run the reports and save them how you mentioned was best then will see where that leads.

thank you,
