Dynamic Invoicing Template for Apple Number

I am trying to find a Dynamic Invoicing Template for Apple Numbers created by Daniel Langlois for more than 10 years ago. The template was advertised in the video free to be downloaded, but the website does not exist anymore.

Anything similar to use locally on Numbers might do aswell.

You might consider a reframe of that. Perhaps what you were reading was not comments on how to run your business, but instead comments on the nature of Numbers as a tool (in its current form) that you might want to consider.

It is possible to get Numbers to act in some ways as a lightweight database app (I gave you a link to an example of that from a reputable source; you dismissed it as being a "lightyear" away from meeting your needs). But the question remains whether trying to have Numbers act like an invoicing database is worth the effort and whether the result will be reliable enough for a business and sufficiently easy to maintain.

The fact that a (really) old template cannot be found (even by going to Wayback Machine; yes, I first tried that, to help you, and found the page but not the zip file) perhaps gives something of an indication on those questions. If the template had been useful to a sufficient number of businesses then it likely would still be offered, somewhere, wouldn't you think?

That template appears to be lost to the ether. The ephemeral nature of websites on the Internet strikes again. A few people here, including Barry and Yellowbox (and SGIII), helped people with questions about this template so maybe one of them has it tucked away in an old folder somewhere on their computer but that was 12 1/2 years ago and using Numbers '09 and it wasn't really necessary to download it to provide the help so it is doubtful.

It seems you want some sort of ready-made (because you are not comfortable with spreadsheet formulas) and automated system for invoicing.

In general, I stand by my comment above that I doubt Numbers is the right tool for that kind of system to support a business. That seems to be more database thing than a spreadsheet thing. None of us have a discontinued template based on a previous version of Numbers (actually a completely different app, though the name was kept) that was released well over a decade ago. Even if I did have such a template, I would be cautious about recommending its use without understanding your specific needs.

We are all fellow users here donating time to help others use Numbers in its current form. Screenshots showing work you have done so far on this would help us help you.

Hi Arkisto,

You are keeping us guessing! I do not understand what you want from a dynamic invoicing document. Could it be that when you choose a Client ID, the "Hours Due" table on the "Invoice" sheet lists all the unpaid hours for that client?

Perhaps that can be done with a SUMIF or SUMIFS function.

More information on your overall aim may help us to help you.

Hi Arkisto,

Like Badunit, I can not find the template that appears to be lost to the ether. Maybe I did help 12 1/2 years ago, but I did not keep a record of my replies. nor did I keep a copy of that Numbers '09 template.

I have downloaded from the link posted by SG:

https://macmost.com/downloads/1897NumbersInvoices.numbers.zip

Assuming that you are trying to adapt that Numbers document, how can we help with your request?

It is a good base for the template I would need, but sadly a lightyear away, for I am not a wizard in creating functions.

Edit: More to the point, what do you mean by "Dynamic"?

Ian.

I am not expecting you to have kept something for 12,5 years, but I am trying to locate a copy. This is me trying.

That 1897-template I have already, and it is to the right direction, but not usable/enough as it is, and I do not have the skills or the time to continue developing it right now. If nothing else helps, I will have to get someone to do it for me, but it takes time too.

I am not sure what the original developer Daniel Langlois meant by "dynamic" - he named he template. The difference compared to other "invoice templates" is that it according to the video is more closer to a project management and invoicing tool, than just a template for a single invoice - those are widely available, and that I could do myself even. The video is impressive - that template would be more than enough for my use, and I would gladly pay for it.

I have been using more than one web-based project management and invoicing tools over the years, and they all are expensive compared to the tasks needed, and they most often are only partially usable and the parts that can be used do not fit to usage properly. I work alone now, so my needs in this area are quite modest. Numbers template would be independent from a third party developer, not needy when it comes to the HW or SW, it could be easily modified, and it would be available for mobile use via iCloud.

As I have written in the first message - I am looking for this particular ready-made template, that is shown in the video. So you are right about that.

I too stand by my opinion about what I need, and I do not welcome more comments on how to run my business - that is kind of rude. If you do not have the particular template (or anything similar) I am looking for, you do not need to continue commenting on this issue.

I am aware that the template is created on an older version of numbers, but spreadsheets can be modified and translated to work in different platforms.

Small businesses used spreadsheets to do this exact thing for decades before web-based services became popular, and I do not see why I could not use them still. As I have told you already, I do not like the services or programs I have used so far as being entrepreneur for about 16 years. I work alone now, but I have a few years back managed a business with 10 employees also, and I know that the needs in that kind of situation are totally different.

I do not have anything previous to show you, because I have been using web-based services so far, and want to get rid of them for good.

-> I need the template that is shown in the video, or something similar - have you watched the video?

I am aware that I am the one asking for help, but my request is simple, and I do not really know how to make it more clear to you.

It has been just a few days of search, let's see if anything turns up.

If nothing ready-made does not turn up, I will have to get help in order to build an adequate system from scratch, or using the 1897-template as a starting point, and of course this will cost me. I have a couple of months until my current web-based service runs out. I have just 5-10 invoices to make monthly, so I can manage a couple of months producing them manually too.

I am not asking anyone to do anything more for me here - just trying to locate that template.

Jun 1, 2023 9:47 AM in response to SGIII

I am aware what spreadsheets in general can do, and I do use Numbers in my work daily, so I have no doubt it would meet the needs I have. **** I could manage with paper and pen if necessary, and in any case, I am not getting another web-based system to do this, nor am I going to use any separate software to do this. I can honestly say, that I have tested most of them available here and that are used in my line of work.

Lightyear away meant that as it is, it is not ready, and it would take time and money to make it function even remotely similar way as the template I was searching. It is not dismissed, but it is not what I am trying to find in this topic. It will probably be a starting point if I have to make my own template. Sorry if I was unclear on this.

I do appreciate everyones efforts, but this is not what I bargained for. I am trying to locate a file, and yet my search is questioned. The fact that you have tried a specific way to find the file, and found it unsuccessful is useful information in this topic, and I thank you for that.
