Safari will not save images on laptop

Whenever I have my external monitor connected to my MacBook Pro, it will save images without an issue. When I remove the monitor and just use the laptop by itself, the Save button is always greyed out and the Cancel button is inaccessible. I have to use the Escape key to get out of the dialogue but it never saves. Using another browser works fine for saving to any location.

Thanks for replying, bobcatbill22, and that additional info, it really helps! Next, to isolate further, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Hello bobcatbill22,

We'd be happy to help. After testing this on our Macs, we recommend that you try to save the file to a different folder. Currently It looks like you have Social Media selected. Does the issue continues if you choose Downloads or Desktop?

If it only happens with this folder you may need to change the folder premissions. You can learn how to do that here: Change permissions for files, folders, or disks on Mac - Apple Support

Thanks.
