Original versions of some ripped songs have been replaced by different versions

I've been using the Apple Music subscription service for a few years now but I've just noticed something that I'm not happy with. I have hundreds of albums that I ripped prior to the existence of Apple Music. I listened to one (the album "Abacab" by Genesis) recently and found that the original album version of the song "Abacab" had been replaced by the radio edit which is about 2.5 minutes shorter. Here's the strange thing: I've never owned a copy of the radio edit but that's the version in my collection now, despite the fact that the album on Apple Music doesn't include the radio edit either. A couple of compilations on Apple Music include the radio edit, but they are technically different albums with different album titles. I tried downloading the album version but it considered it a different album, so it won't play with the other tracks. I also tried re-downloading the full album again but it would only download about half of the album for some reason. It will let me stream them all, just not download them, and there is no indication of an error or any other reason why the other songs won't download. So I have three questions about this:

  1. Is there a way to make it replace the radio edit with the album version, keeping them all together and in order?
  2. Is there a way to tell Apple Music that I want to keep my original ripped version of an album and not replace it with the Apple Music version?
  3. Why won't all of the songs download?

Hello ndelc,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities and for sharing these details with us. We want to help you with your downloading issue and also see if we can help with the incorrect music showing in the Music app. For downloading issues, let's try the steps below:

1.) Close the Music app: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support

2.) Refresh things by restarting your Mac: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

3.) If you're using a VPN or have a firewall, try pausing them. These types of softwares can sometimes interfere with communications: Set up a VPN connection on Mac - Apple Support

4.) Make sure you're using the recommended settings for your network: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

If your issue continues to occur, then you might want to start up in safe mode. This step can help isolate possible software related issues: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Apple silicon
1.) Shut down your Mac.
2.) Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3.) Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4.) Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Depending on your results, follow the steps under “If the issue continues in safe mode” or “If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode”.

As for your other issue with Apple Music replacing your songs. Apple Music will automatically match your songs and have them shared across your devices when using Sync Library. As we mentioned, this is an automatic process. Because of this, you might want to reach out to Apple Support for help. They'll need to investigate this issue further with you. Just in case, you can use the following link to reach them: Get Support

We hope these steps help you. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
