Sync music/podcasts to Apple Watch while on battery

Hello everyone,

I know that from watchOS 9.1 Apple introduced the possibility to sync music from iPhone to Apple Watch not only while charging, but also while using battery.

Why do I keep seeing on my Watch app that podcasts and music will be synced to Apple Watch while charging and while Watch is connected to either Wi-Fi or iPhone?

Are there any other requirements that must be met in order to use this function (other that staying connected to Wi-Fi and close to iPhone)?

Apple Watch Series 7 (watchOS 9.5) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (iOS 16.5)

Hi Angelo.Ghisi,

Per Add music to Apple Watch - Apple Support, an additional requirement is that the Apple Watch and iPhone must be close to one another to sync.

"In watchOS 9.1 and later, music is added when Apple Watch is placed near your iPhone. In earlier versions of watchOS, your Apple Watch must also be connected to power."

This also does not appear to be the case for podcasts as outlined here: Add podcasts to Apple Watch - Apple Support

"Add podcasts using your iPhone

When you follow shows and create stations in the Podcasts app on your iPhone, recent episodes of those shows are available to download to your Apple Watch when it’s connected to power. See the iPhone User Guide for more information about following podcasts and creating stations."

We'd recommend you try syncing just music off the charger, but with the devices close together and confirm that works properly. If it does, this would be expected behavior from your Apple Watch.

Hi Derek,

thanks for your answer.

It seems that music under “heavy rotation” section needs power to sync to Apple Watch, even if Watch and iPhone are close to each other.

If you manually choose music, iPhone asks if you want to sync the songs to your Apple Watch using battery or wait for power.

It’s not as intuitive as I thought, but at least it works.

I hope this answer could help someone.
