Yahoo/Att mail issues

Earlier today I saw an error message on my MacBook Pro asking me to log into Internet accounts. My mail wasn't working. I had to update my password. Mail is now working on this computer; however, I have a second, older MacBook, and I can't get mail to work on it. I've tried going into Internet Accounts and entering the new password, but it keeps getting rejected. I tried an ATT help site, but it required me to first enter my email (the same address I've had for years), and the response was that my address couldn't be found, so I couldn't get any further. When I tried a chat, an automated system was answering, and it didn't provide anything that was useful. The upshot is that every way I try to resolve this situation I'm blocked by rejection of some piece of information, whether it's the password, user ID (which I assume is my email address), or something else I've done wrong that I can't identify. Surely there's a way out, but what?

Hey there NJM55,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. You mentioned recently setting up your AT&T account in the Mail app on your Mac, but it's showing a message explaining that the password is incorrect. If that's right, are you also having the same issue adding a Yahoo account in Mail on your Mac?
  2. We understand you were able to set up both accounts in your new Mac, but what occurs if you go to the AT&T and Yahoo websites to test signing in there?
  3. When was the last time you were able to use both accounts in Mail on your older Mac?

Cheers!

I don't know what the problem was, but I finally got the password updated on both laptops, my phone, and two iPods. I had a phone conversation with Apple Support earlier today, and that was helpful in overcoming the issue. The support person didn't have any magical solutions, and the steps she led me through were ones I had tried before, but somehow under her guidance they worked.
