Hey there bigpelican,
Thanks for asking about issue with typing. Since this occurs in multiple browsers, we know it's not an issue with Safari.
Try updating macOS 13.4, as a new version can help with operating system issues, and the restart involved might clear it also: Update macOS on Mac
Next, check if the same thing is occurring in other apps such as Notes or Text Edit.
You can also boot to macOS Recovery, and choose to get help online, see if it happens there in Safari. If it occurs there, then this is most likely a hardware issue. Let us know that. Use the steps to check for your model:
Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support
Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support
If it's still occurring, but not in macOS Recovery, check if it occurs in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
Check the options below based on your results next:
"If the issue continues in safe mode
If the issue continues while in safe mode, or your Mac restarts several times and then shuts down while starting up in safe mode, you should reinstall macOS and make sure that your Apple software and third-party apps are up to date.
If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode
If the issue doesn't continue while in safe mode, leave safe mode by restarting your Mac normally. Then test for the issue again. The issue might be resolved.
If the issue returns after leaving safe mode, startup items are probably at fault. Apps can install such items in numerous places, and they aren't always easy to find or recognize. For that reason, you should first make sure that you've installed any available updates for your Apple software and third-party apps.
If updating your software doesn't help, try any of these solutions:
- Test your login items.
- To learn whether software in your user account is causing the issue, set up a new user account, then log in to it and try to reproduce the issue in that account.
- Unplug all accessories from your Mac, including printers, drives, USB hubs, and other nonessential devices. You could have an issue with one or more of those devices or their cables.
- Reinstall macOS."
If you still have issues and it's not hardware related and safe mode didn't correct it, then check if it's occurring in a newly created unmodified test Admin user. This lets us know if it's isolated to your user, or system wide. New user or group setup on Mac - Apple Support
When done testing, go ahead and log out of the test user, log back in to your Admin user, and delete the test user. Let us know the results.
Cheers!
