iMac 2019 has always been too slow

my imac (2019) has been incredibly slow from the start. Despite three calls with apple care and numerous reinstalls, no better. My macbook air works just fine. Can I wipe the Imac and restore it from the macbook to avoid any possible affected files in my existing iMac time machine backup?

If your iMac has a factory mechanical hard drive, or Apple's Fusion (hybrid) drive, long history here says these are the issue, not "affected files." Do do nothing until we can see your Etrecheck report. It will allow us to give a data-driven evaluation because it puts real numbers to "slow" issues in addition to helping spot useless-ware like anti-virus or so-called cleaning apps. Both can cripple performance.

At this point reloading the system is not appropriate—and could be detrimental if you have a Fusion drive—without first looking for KNOWN iMac drive issues with EtreCheck. Etrecheckmis designed to NOT reveal any personal of security information. It simple reports.

I'am, just a, boring man, just ,installing, chrome, Firefox and my favorite the Opera Browser for my iMac 2019!
I have no issue with a slow iMac!

A Etrecheck report will help on this matter?

We can either ask myriad configuration questions here (and that all gets tedious and detailed), or you can download and run EtreCheck and post the report here. From that report, we can usually spot performance issues, or at least good candidates.

As for one of the more common iMac performance issues:

Why is my hard disk drive iMac so slow? - Apple Community

The entry-level iMac performance was never great, and the increases in size and processing within apps and macOS have exacerbated that.

If that is the issue here, there is a workaround short of replacement:
