Macbook Air of August 2020 needs already a new screen and motherboard 1.250 euro? Is that normal?

My daughter got a brand new MacBook Air in August 2020 and two weeks ago it suddenly stopped working. We have been informed now that both the motherboard and the screen need to be repaired for 1.250 euro (new price 1.426) I think this is ridiculous. We are big Apple fans we bought at least 10 phones over the year) 3 MacBook pro's, two watches and this is/was our second air. Does anyone have an idea how I can avoid these costs and or has another cheeper solution?

Some extra info. The Air has been almost always standing on the same desk so hasn't been used remotely, and no we don't have an extra insurance.

So you bought:

10 phones

3 MacBook Pros

2 Watches

2 MacBook Airs

Now you are having an issue with one of your computers. This sounds like a good/decent history with Apple products. Unfortunately consumer products sometimes break. This is why extended warranties are offered.

FWIW, I would not get the computer repaired, I would buy a new computer.

True however this doesn't mean that Apple is always delivering good working products. The collection of little wires is uncountable and we also have 3 magic mice (mouse) that all three didn't work after a couple of months. Quote when I showed all three in an Apple store a couple of years ago: Sir what do you expect? Mmm maybe a couple of months more? We never bought new ones, so I can't imagine that the aim for Apple. So my 18 year old choose a couple of years for other brands because he is less design oriented. While we as parents offer him the much more expensive Apple products.

We are not Apple. We are users like you. We can not speak on behalf of Apple. If Apple products are not performing up to your expectations I suggest you contact Apple about that.

Is it normal? Let's just say it's not unheard of. Search this forum and you'll find many such occurrences as yours.

We all want out devices to be error free for many years, but the reality is that's not always going to happen. That's one reason Apple offers low cost extended warranty coverage. You had the opportunity to buy extended warranty but chose not to.

NO company is responsible for delivering a perfect product. You've never seen perfect product of ANY brand.

Apple recognizes the product is not perfect. But YOU have the choice to accept reasonable workarounds or not. Nothing in this life is free, somebody pays, and nothing is perfectly reliable.

But, it's your property, and you are free to believe what you wish. But you might consider putting a little less faith in the possibility and probability of a perfect anything in the mortal world.

Good luck!
