Why can't Apple TV remote learn LG's magic remote?

Even if it's just to operate power and volume. I was able to get Apple TV remote to learn my old Pioneer plasma. I recently replace the Plasma with the LG65OLEDC2. But unable to get it to learn.

Restart your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote

1. Press and hold the TV/Control Center button and the Volume Down button at the same time. Hold the buttons down for about 5 seconds, or until the status light on your Apple TV turns off and on again.

2. Release the buttons. Then wait 10-15 seconds for a Remote Disconnected notification to appear on your TV screen.

3. Press any button on your remote. When the Remote Connected notification appears, you can use your remote.

I realize this question still in startup phase. First answer(s) seem to be going backwards.

Example: I have an LG TV and AppleTV providing content. Can I program the AppleTV remote and attendant software to mimic the additional tasks performed easily with the essential LG remote, e.g. change color intensity, contrast, sound characteristics, etc.?

That would be useful. I have a Harmony remote that I might program to cover everything the 2 essential remotes do ... used to be my standard - but, it's getting to feel clunky compared to the beauty old the AppleTV remote or even just the up-to-dte programming built into the LG's.
