Iphone 14 max pro weird issues while using headphones

When I'm watching a live broadcast or streaming videos with my headphones plugged in my phone goes a bit crazy. suddenly siri will turn on (which is so extremely loud I have to jerk my earphones out of my ears) and then my apple music will turn on and take over everything, and the music plays at super speed. Even when I turn it off and close the music app and clear it it still opens itself and turns itself back on. it keeps doing it over and over. I end up having to clear everything and try again (thus missing large parts of the live broadcasts) and finally give up. It has happened when the phone was plugged into the charger as well. I already turned off "hey siri" and I'm not sure what else I can do. My new phone did not come with new headphones so I am still using the one's from my previous iphone. thanks, LynnAnn

Hello LLeikam,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Does this same thing happen if you use a different pair of headphones, or if you try using these headphones on another iPhone?

Testing that can help narrow down if it's the headphones or a setting on your device.

If this is happening only with those headphones, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support to look in to any available options: Get Support

Cheers!

Hi LLeikam,

You've done a great job of troubleshooting and trying to isolate this issue so far. We don't see if you're using the latest iOS version of 16.5. Being on the latest iOS version is important, as an update can contain bug fixes, along with features updates.

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If after updating, you're still having the same anomaly with a wired headset, you'll want to contact Apple Support, so they can look into this issue further.

Take care!

Soooo in May 2020 I upgraded from a 5se to the pro max 10, then shortly after, had all the issues as mentioned above and more, so then eventually the phone was replaced by the 11 pro max and soo after that, sent this email to Optus about the iphone- as they are my provider…

IPHONE 11 PRO MAX ISSUES

If you remember when I first received the new I-phone 11 Pro Max as replacement for the I-phone Max 10 that was having serious issues, I also said right from the start that I couldn't use the new Iphone 11 as there was something wrong with it and even you Optus techs could not help me....so I took it to the real Apple Store at Southland shopping centre and the only thing that they could do (without a 2 hour wait) was to perform a hard reset and re-install the OS.

Well the new I-phone 11 Pro max has started behaving exactly as the old Iphone 10 did- dropping phone calls; dropping audio even when the call is still connected; not registering the phone calls on my recent call list; the microphone for dictation is not recording properly and the audio sound waves are not in line with my voice, but vibrating like it's having an electrical shock and the camera is playing up too.

When I tap the shutter button on the camera, sometimes it is taking about half a second or more to actually take the photo. Sometimes it takes a photo- even when the camera app has been closed. (I have many photos of the inside of my pockets), many of the photos are blurry from movement- even though I haven't moved.

I have updated the OS, but that has not improved it's performance at all.

This phone is behaving exactly like the Iphone 10 did.

AND NOW, after having the Pro Max 13 for the past 2 years with no issues other than dodgy camera lenses straight out of the box and supposedly fixed (not) with a new screen 2 years ago, I am now having exactly the same issue as above AND it started just a few weeks ago after the automatic OS update!

I also realised today that the common denominator with all 3 iphones- is the headphones.

Obviously all these years I havent used the same pair of headphones- infact I have been through quite a few Apple/Belkin wired headphones since, so its not the actual headphones because if it was, it would be happening every single day that Im out and about with them plugged in.

Soooooo since it only started happening after the last OS update a few weeks ago, now Im serious thinking that it must be something in the update that is causing the firmware for the headphone port to spaz out- doing all of the above and including playing apple music when the app is not even open..

So what do we think about that?

Does anyone else think that this could be the cause?

Hello,

Yes it's doing it with my other over-ear headphones too. I bought a new pair recently along with a lightning adapter for a long airplane ride. It does the same thing. it seems to happen the most when I am watching a live broadcast on FB etc. It did happen while using the airline streaming service during a long flight as well, but not nearly as frequently. As for trying my earbuds on another Iphone, the pair I have is the same pair I was using with my Iphone 11 and I never had an issue. my new phone didn't come with new earbuds so I've just been using my old ones. I've only had my new 14 pro max for two months, and it's been doing this from the get-go.

And if it helps, I've also been trying to pay attention at the time it happens. was thinking maybe the jack itself is sensitive to the cord moving around. I feel like when I tried to keep the cord still maybe it helped, but I can't be sure, because then it seems to be fine when its plugged in and charging even when I'm moving it around while watching a broadcast, sooo I don't know.. in any case, thanks so much for responding! I

I am having the same problem and there is no solution at this point as I can see. I got a new phone and it still does the same thing, I have the latest software and this is very annoying. In addition to that my phone constantly drops calls when this happens. I’m so frustrated with this. Calling tech support doesn’t help. Is there a known problem with Apple wired earbuds and iPhone that’s causing this problem.
