How do I install new OS after erasing the HD?

I erased my HD on my MacBook Air and followed the instructions given to me at the Apple Store to reinstall the latest OS, but after shutting down, it won’t allow me to type in my Wi-Fi password to do internet recovery. How do I install the new OS if I can’t connect to the internet? Inhale a 2017 MacBook Air.

Hey there chfashun73,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. Have you attempted to restart your Mac since this began?
  2. What about trying to connect an external keyboard to see if typing in the password works with it?
  3. If you're still unable to enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted to connect online to reinstall macOS, we suggest creating a bootable installer to try from that method instead: Create a bootable installer for macOS

Cheers!
