Other than tapping the top of the message which only brings you up a page at a time, is there a faster method to get to the beginning of the messages? There’s literally thousands of messages and something always happens where it will bring me back to current only to have to do it all over again. I’ve tried 4 times and can’t get there. This doesn’t seem like a problem for apple to implement? Why haven’t they? It makes me want to throw my phone!

To my knowledge, there is no button to take you to the top or bottom of a message thread. Why, you ask? We aren't Apple as this is a user to user only forum and we don't work for Apple, nor have anything to do with iOS or its functionality. And Apple doesn't actively participate here on the user only forums.
