Does one need an app in order to use DVD player from 21.5" Mac verson Monterey on 24" Mac Ventura 13.4?

If this is an Apple SuperDrive, no app is required.

However, you need an adapter to connect the SuperDrive's old-school USB plug to the USB-C ports on the new iMac. You cannot connect the drive through a dock or hub; it must connect via adaptor directly to a port on the new iMac.

Several reports here suggest the third-party adaptors do not work and to use only Apple adapters. Those are described in this Apple article:

If you have a third-party DVD drive, you'll need to check with its manufacturer.

The Apple SuperDrive has not been updated since the summer of 2012 (😱) and we see a number of people repoting issues with newer Masc. All you can do is try.
