I all of a sudden received a message "there was a problem with messages. you need to quit and open messages again" with this message appearing I am unable to access the messages pull down menus. please if anyone else is getting this message.
I was able to receive and send text message son my mac book air - now cannot. thank you

Do a safe mode start and let it sit for a few minutes. Then shutdown and restart normally.

If all else fails, consider reinstalling the OS via the Recovery panel ... Command + R at startup.

Try as simple restart and then retest.
