iCloud for Windows not fully initialized.

I'm trying to install iCloud for Windows. When I launch the app from the Microsoft app store, I get a message saying: "iCloud for Windows has not fully initialized. Please wait a monent and log in again." I have tried several times over the past few days without success. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted my computer several times. Any ideas on how to get beyond this issue?

The very same kind of troubleshooting and conclusion was made with me when I've contacted Apple. So I confirm that, if you create a brand new user profile in your Windows 10 or 11, than iCloud 14.x will not give you any issue and so you'll be prompted - as expected - to satisfy the MFA multi factor authentication and than Login successfully - This aspect led me to the conclusion that the issue we are all facing and reporting here on this thread is most probably caused by something going wrong during the "iCloud local app profile migration from the legacy version 7.x to the new current iCloud local Ms App 14.x". I am 100% sure about this root cause because, as WPeterG and myself experienced, when you create a new Windows profile and you install from zero iCloud by the Ms Store, than you will succeed to authenticate and use it fully. On the contrary, in my opinion, if you were using (in W10 or W11) iCloud 7.x happily and than migrate to iCloud 14.x than you'll most probably face this kind of challenge. I hope these notes will help you all users and also Apple Support to investigate deeper, reproduce the issue on their side as well and finally get it solved in collaboration with Ms Store hub. Thank you!

Helpful post, delavega79! Thanks for that. So the conclusion is that transition to the new (14.x) version of iCloud from the MS App Store has created a conflict with something in our W10 Home/?Pro operating system. Yesterday, Apple's Andrew ran through a long list of possible conflicting items, which he had been provided by their engineering team (eg. Acronis, Malwarebytes, etc. etc.), and we tested each one without discovering the guilty party. I also submitted about 100MB of diagnostic data (msinfo32.exe dump, iCloud tracking, screenshots) from my system for examination by Apple engineers, so maybe we're moving closer to identifying the exact problem. (BTW, running DISM and SFC.exe on my W10 system did not detect any corrupted files.)

It works! Hallelujiaa!! Thank you so much RB000 and Jatinder and everyone :-)

Let me also tell you that after installing the version 13, I've authenticated without even been asked for the MFA step, so, instead of restarting the pc as I was asked to do by an error message from iCloud,

I've chosen to immediately upgrade to 14.x from the Microsoft Store and than restart my Windows PC. So it works smoothly without asking me to perform MFA to get me in.. Let's see in the future, post next Bios update how it will behave

Kind regards

My hope is small but I wish that Apple will take decision to develop its own new latest version of iCloud as they did with version 7.x which was working smoothly. As almost all users are reporting it’s something around the MFA or 2FA which is not completely successful.

Guys I believe that some portion of root cause could be also related with the feature of ‘advanced data security’ introduced by Apple some months ago.

What I mean here is that when I ve started facing the issue with iCloud migration from 7.x to 14.x, in my case, my profile had the advanced data protection enabled and also the option of iCloud data kept not visible via webpage.

Question: guys, to all of you with my same issue, do you have also the advanced data protection feature enabled in your iOS settings?

thank u!

Same here. Windows 10 Home. Have tried numerous solutions... disabling anti-virus and firewall, etc., etc. Stopping all but MS services using msconfig. Uninstalling, reinstalling - many times.

The proliferation of "Me too's" on this page certainly suggests that something has been changed, either by Microsloth, or Apple, in recent times.

Just get this every time:

Interestingly, iCloud installed with no problem on an HP Elitebook running Windows 10 Pro.

Still investigating: will post a solution if we can find one!

Cheers

Updated to current Windows 10 Home updates. No change to iCloud problem.

Interestingly, the MS install/uninstall troubleshooter doesn't even detect that iCloud has been installed. See here for the troubleshooter: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d

So the MS Store version of iCloud is not fully installing for some reason.

That is very helpful, delavega79. Thank you taking the time to share your experience.

Of course, you can't even log into this Discussion page without MFA working! But you seem to have identified one half of the incompatibility issue -- the introduction of iCloud for Windows v.14. The burning question is: what is v.14 incompatible with on some PCs running Windows 10 and 11?

Yes yes thank you I’m fully aware about related risks on using certain standalone installation packages. I fully agree on your heads-up. Let me say that if you are an Acronis user as I guess you are, perhaps you better have on your old pc Windows images the official Apple iCloud installation client 7.x which was, at those times, made available by Apple site or deployable directly by Apple Updates Tool

Dear R8000 and WPeterG I'm immensely grateful for this solution that you can't even imagine how much! In the past when I've engaged Apple support via phone (I am entitled for Apple Care+ by the way) the Tier2 engineer which was troubleshooting with me, as the first level support agent super kind was not iCloud-skilled, was almost making me feeling guilty of not being a Mac-User simply because, according to his feedback to me, it was clear that the issue was caused by Windows10 limitations and because I was keeping myself into W10 instead of migrating to the newest W11 OS, at least... I was explaining to him that W10 OS has to be considered fully supported till at least 2024 according to my knowledge but... no changes into his mindset. - For more when we discovered that by creating a new user even in W10 it was visible that iCloud 14 was working fine, he mentioned to me that If I was a Mac user I would have had easy experience in switching everything (sw, configuration, settings, etc..) from UserProfile XY to newUserProfile XY, while in Windows he had no glue and no idea on how to do it easily -- so -- in the end, I've never implemented fully what he was pushing me to do.

Those time after such experience I was posting a polite but detailed resume of my issue and experience had with the above story but my post has been the same day removed by moderator because in my message I was including the link from where - by myself - I have been able to source the iCloud 7.x client installation package. Such internet link was probably braking the Apple Forum Support policy, my mistake, but they could have been keeping at least my thread and message which took to me hours to be composed politely and accurately detailed... but.. eh.. no... zero... nada :)

When I saw here the latest post by R8000 I've immediately jumped to the link and tested the proposed plan of actions because I was afraid that could have happened the same destiny also to such message

Guys, when I installed the iCloud 13.x version, I've briefly noticed that, during the deployment, it seems to me it add some useful C++ or java libraries (I can't recall now) and I believe that this minor step is the success key which makes iCloud 13.x successful to complete and open up properly later on. Last thing to add here, is that the very first time that I've run iCloud 13.x post installing it, I was again expecting to be offered and asked the OTP due to the MFA security logic behind.. but surprisingly no, I've never been asked for it. Neither later, when I've on my choice decided to upgrade immediately to iCloud 14.x and restart the pc as required.

Wish you all the best guys and hope that Apple will sort out soon and completely the issue with iCloud 14.x native package offered by Microsoft Store hub

Warm regards, Diego

Hello, just to help you out… the issue to me was significantly different from yours: I never managed to successfully receive the MFA notification on my mobile in order to proceed with the authentication. This means to me that you haven’t been able to solve by the given action plan (by R8000) because your issue is different, not the same that most of users reported on this thread. Hope it helps you to clarify, regards
