My send later feature does not actually send the mail later. I hear the swoosh sound when I schedule the mail but when I look later it is still sitting in the send later folder. Does it have to be sent to an apple mail account or can any email be the recipient? Why is it not working?

I had the same problem and after advising with apple support the problem was that the recipient address (that was added with "copy" and "paste") was incorrect. Therefore I advise you also to check whether the recipent email address entered was correct.

To get rid of the Sender Later COUNT ( 1 ) appearing on that folder
Just Quit Mail and pause maybe 4 seconds and open Mail again - Presto the Count goes back to Zero

The Sender Later function does not require the Recipients e-mail address to be an Apple iCloud address and can be any e-mail address

Yes you are right. It does still Appear in Send later as it does also show as being sent in Sent Folder
If to check the Sender Later folder, you may find it is Empty
