Will the touch bar ever come back?

I am interested in buying a new MacBook Pro but all the updated versions out now do not have the Touch Bar. My current MacBook has it and I love it very much. Do we know if it will ever make a comeback? I do not want to purchase a new computer if it has a chance of coming back. Thanks.

I am a touchbar addict. Without it every Mac looks and feels incomplete. I would love the 14, 15 and 16 variants of Mac to have the Touch Bar. The only reason I have not purchased the new ones till date and still using my 2016 Touch Bar version. And Apple is right now forcing people to buy the new mac's by dropping support for the 2016 dec variants after Monterey. Apple should know that people once used to the Touch Bar won't opt for lame buttons only keyboards layouts

Well, it would be even nicer, if a MacBook would come with whole Touch keyboard, instead of a keyboard with mechanical keys. I had used such a laptop before. It was quite nice to just touch the keys when writing, rather than peck at the keys. When a person is getting older the finger tips hurts a bit while faster writing. 😩

my 2019 MB Pro screen cracked. I am so upset over that. Was looking to purchase a new MBPro. I was not aware that Apple does not offer the Touch Bar on the 16 inch model. I am even more ******! That was my favorite feature on the laptop. I am having to resort to getting the old one fixed (~$1300) or switch to windows. Asus has a multi screen laptop. Might switch back to Windows.

I've just logged on to see how many people share my feelings about the Touch Bar. I'm currently working through a Word document, edited by a colleague who uses colour coding. With the Touch Bar, it was much easier to remove this as I went through it. Now it feels much more laborious to use the pointer to find the icon on the screen and select the text colour etc.

Apple does have a history of bringing back hardware features - after making improvements, obviously.

For example, MagSafe came with the 2006 MacBook.

Then it was improved with MagSafe 2 in MacBook Pro (2012–2015 Retina models) and MacBook Air (2012–2017).

After a hiatus, in 2021, MagSafe made a comeback to Macs (14" and 16" MBP) with MagSafe 3.

So, certainly, one can expect the touch bar to make a comeback in future Macs with certain improvements.

Apple has a much broader history of removing things and not bringing them back, e.g. SCSI port, floppy drive, and optical drive, not to mention the Dashboard, target disk mode, headset jacks on iPhones. I could go on.

You can hope Apple will bring the TouchBar back. You can let them know it's something you'd like to see using the feedback link previously provided. But, I wouldn't expect it or make your upgrade plans contingent upon it. Eventually, you will need a new computer. At that point, you will have the choice of upgrading to what is available (from whatever manufacturer) or doing without.

For the most part, Apple once again, did it wrong. They put the Touch bar kind of far out of the place away from your fingertips and your eyes but they really should’ve done is make it possible to eject the mouse pad and drop in your phone and have the Touch Bar.

or made the mouse bad have phone like touchscreen ability as well as having the touch bar and probably they should’ve put some sort of dials in there as well because sliders don’t replace dials . the addition of tactile usage beyond Kyes was a game changer. It’s just too bad they never implemented it properly.

I have a Mac book with Touch Bar I purchased back 2021 and loved it. Unfortunately, I had an accident and the screen broke. Apple is charging me 600.00 to fix it but they also recommended me to buy a new one because mine is only worth 350. I don’t wanna buy a MacBook laptop because none of them have the touch bar, so with that be said Apple get it together and bring the Touch Bar back with all your new MacBooks that are coming out, how can you discontinue this bring back touch bar now. I will not buy a new MacBook unless the new MacBooks have the TOUCHBAR

I have a MacBook Pro 2020 with M1 processor. I must say I love using the Touch Bar, moreover, it looks really great!

I believe Mac users must have the choice of purchasing a new Mac with or without it!

I truly hope Apple will bring the Touch Bar back, on devices having the same look and design of formers MacBook Pro’s, or include it on new MacBook (SE), the same as iPhone SE, featuring the Home Button…

I fully understand the business side of things.

However, only Apple could have thought of such an amazing feature, which in my opinion, outperforms any computer brand in the world, as always.

To me, this idea is part of Apple’s DNA, thinking differently and bringing things forward, as opposed with other boring Windows PC manufacturers.

I still believe Touch Bar is a genius idea, dignified of Apple’s state of mind!

Apple has created many brilliant features and products and then discontinued them if they didn't sell well. Apple is, first and foremost, a for-profit business. So, no matter how much you like a feature, no matter how amazing it is, if it doesn't sell, Apple is unlikely to bring it back, at least not in the same form. The Newton was brilliant, groundbreaking, and wonderful, but it didn't sell. Apple discontinued it. It was quite a few years before we got the iPad, which, while it fills the same niche, is different.

I know this reply is quite late, but I recently purchased a 2017 15 inch Macbook Pro, and I honestly love the touchbar. It makes the device feel more premium, and adds some convenient functionality, such as emoji predictions in iMessage. I should note though, that while Apple has ended support for major updates like Montery, Ventura, and Sonoma, there are still 3 years of security updates for each version. And beyond that, well just don't do anything obviously compromising your security, and you'll be fine. The majority of security threats are targeted towards Windows anyways because they have a much larger market share. So you can still use MacOS Montery just fine for years to come.
