I'm running an M1 Pro MacBook Pro on Monterey 12.6. I have an old iCloud-based Contacts group that is now empty (no contacts). Click on the group in the sidebar and pressing the "delete" key on my keyboard does nothing (e.g., no sound, no error, no action).

Highlight the empty Group and press Command and Delete together.

Okay. Here's how I fixed it. I deleted it using Contacts on my iPad. Something strange going on here.
I wish Apple would provide menu-driven actions for all the context-sensitive click actions, such as Command Delete to do something that is different from just Delete.
You could try logging into icloud.com and see if you can delete it from there.

have you restarted? If not, please do so and retest. If no joy start in safe mode, let it "soak" for a few minutes and then do a normal restart and retest.

If all else fails, consider reinstalling the OS
Copy a few contacts into the offending group and see if that makes difference. maybe it needs content.
Interesting. I am unable to drag a new contact into it or create a new contact in the group with it selected on either machine. It's looking like the data is corrupted.
Yes. I have restarted. Also, please note that I have this problem on two different computers with two different versions of MacOS. Are you suggesting I reinstall the OS on both machines? The is an iCloud Group.
Just tried it. No pop-up window appears on my M1 MacroBook Pro on Monterey 12.6 or my iMacPro (2017) on Big Sur 11.7.7 and nothing happens.
