Can’t download iCloud photos?

I want to turn off iCloud photos on my iphone, but I still want to keep my pictures. I tried to turn it off and then download them, but it says I need 23 gigs more of storage. However, I only have 120 gigs in icloud, and almost 150 gigs free on my iphone. what’s up with this?

Hello cjones2525,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We do see what you mean regarding your iPhone storage vs what is showing for your photos in iCloud. Have you updated your iPhone to the latest iOS release? If you're not sure, you can check this in Settings > General > About.

If there are any updates to install, be sure to back up your device before installing.

You’ll need to free up space to allow your sync to work properly when you elect to download originals to the device.

as an alternative you could try

  1. Verify photos at iCloud.com/photos
  2. turn off iCloud Photos on your device without downloading originals
  3. delete all photos from your device
  4. turn on iCloud Photos and sync originals
