CarPlay issues with 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid

I too am having issues with CarPlay connectivity ever since updating to IOS 16.5. Worked fine the day before updating and now can’t use any steering wheel buttons to control and sometimes just won’t connect at all. Very frustrating. This is NOT a Toyota issue, this is clearly from the Apple update! Please fix!

So, my car has the ability to bluetooth (i just don't do it because I don't like my phone connecting through the car if I don't WANT it to be connected through the car)... but if I'm understanding the thread correctly, the bluetooth transmitter option is for folks who can't otherwise bluetooth connect to their car? In other words, if I turn my blue tooth back on for my car, I should be able to connect wirelessly to carplay and bypass this problem? And then what if I need to charge my phone while driving and wanting to use carplay? Will it default to the wired connection? Thanks!

The wireless CarPlay adapter is plugged into the USB port that is normally used for CarPlay. The adapter then uses Bluetooth to connect to the phone - you are not connecting the phone to your car's stereo but rather to this adapter. If you need to power your phone, you can either use the USB ports in the console or plug a car charger into the front power port.

Of course. None of us should have to buy a transmitter. But you sounded like you were looking for a solution. And I was letting you know, that you won’t find it at a toyota garage because it’s a software issue.

Yes, when the new operating system comes out there’s a good chance that the phones will start working wired again.

But I kind of don’t care anymore. Because I press start and the phone connects. So even though I had to spend a little money to go wireless, it’s worth it for me.

I never think about it anymore and sometimes plugging in the phone was a pain anyway.

In fact, Im pretty sure if wireless iPhone connect was offered at the dealership for $50 when I originally bought the car, I would have bought it then.

But with that said, we all agree, it’s not right to have issues after buying something this expensive and when it’s time for an upgrade I personally would opt for a car company that updates it’s software more often.

Thank you jj1565, I passed your solution on to my husband. He was ready to trade this car in. I agree we shouldn’t have to spend money to fix the problem, but for my husbands sanity I think it’ll be worth it. He has wireless apple car play in his truck with no issues. The rav 4 is his commuter car to work. So it’s used more than his truck. I think he’ll actually prefer it being wireless as well. Thanks again for responding. 😊

Yup, we all agree this shouldn't be necessary, but a wireless carplay adapter is alot cheaper and less hassle than trading in a whole vehicle. Similar to jj, I am not sure I'll go back to wired even after it's fixed, but this is 100% an iOS / Apple / Lightning port issue, it's not on Toyota as their RAV4 dash software hasn't had an update in over 2 years, so nothing changed. Also (as discussed in previous pages), if you use any iPhone with iOS 16.4 or OLDER< it works fine in the RAV4. It's just 16.5 and later that is broken, so it was 100% a software issue on iOS. The Toyota garage will be stumped.

Agreed on the delay. I just got used to the several second delay on the Forward/Back buttons but I haven't seen the GPS issue. GPS (getting started usually) was always "just ok" for me on my 13 Pro Max with wired carplay and its "just ok" for me with wireless. I dunno, I kind of miss getting some charge on the ride though... if it get's fixed, I may join you, who knows. I do love the hands-free "it just works" of the wireless...
