CarPlay issues with 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid

I too am having issues with CarPlay connectivity ever since updating to IOS 16.5. Worked fine the day before updating and now can’t use any steering wheel buttons to control and sometimes just won’t connect at all. Very frustrating. This is NOT a Toyota issue, this is clearly from the Apple update! Please fix!

This is what I did to Fix my disconnect problem. Has worked for a few days no issues.

It will cost about $60-80usd. Returnable through amazon.

Buy a bluetooth wireless CarPlay transmitter.

I know it sounds stupid to think it will work, because the transmitter still plugs into the USBa on the console. But it worked for my wired CarPlay on my 2022 Toyota Rav4, transmitted to my iPhone 12 running 16.6.

Now I have wireless Apple CarPlay, which works with my bluetooth and connects when I start the car.

Anyone who has read the entire thread knows that I tried everything including an entire system restore on the phone.

I spent a day on the phone with Toyota resetting the multi media.

I had about 3 calls on the phone with apple sending them logs and system failure records etc.

my phone works in other cars, and other phones work in my car. this was the only way to get my phone to work in my car.

They said they know about the problem, and there's nothing they can do until new software hopefully addresses it.

That's it for me. If it eventually fails I'll post back, otherwise, this is how I fixed my CarPlay issues.

I'm in the same boat as everyone here. My 2022 Rav4's Carplay has been useless ever since the the 16.5 update. I've had to take 2 road trips (as is customary during the Summer) with unreliable connectivity with my GPS because my phone will disconnect and reconnect with Carplay every couple of minutes. As was mentioned, this is highly dangerous as you are distracted from the road, and the fact that Apple appears to be completely unwilling to even acknowledge it is ridiculous.

I've tried all the troubleshooting. They haven't fixed it. It is a bug with the os.

Guess my next device will be Android. I've had an iPhone for something like 20 years, but the quality of Apple's software has gotten more and more terrible over the last decade.

Pretty dumb that they claim this "happens every year". I have had a Toyota for the last 5 years, and this is the first time my Carplay has done this after an update. It is an Apple issue, and they need to get it fixed. It's obvious that there is a great reliance on Carplay and the functionality of GPS, along with other applications it provides. This is causing unsafe situations while having to mess with your device as you are attempting to navigate your vehicle.

When all is said and done, I wonder if there may be some lawsuits on the horizon for Apple.

Same with me. iOS 17 didn't fix it.

This could have been a feature change or security enhancement introduced by Apple, which may require Toyota to update its device OS. I would expect the vendors to have been notified of such a change.

If that's really the case, I doubt Apple would do anything to mitigate this issue.

At the end of the day, this is an offering from Toyota, so they should work it out and provide a fix to their customers.

I bought another brand new apple cable. no help.

I disconnected bluetooth completely, and just used the usb wired for CarPlay. no help.

resets every 60 seconds.

and I once again tried "forget this vehicle" on CarPlay and rejoined, but no help.

so, until ios17 comes out, im going to just use bluetooth, not use CarPlay at all, and im going to buy a mount

for my phone. Having the dash reset every minute is too infuriating.

thanks for all the updates.

Thanks for the link to submit a bug report to Apple. Silly that they don't even have anything past 16.4.1 as a selectable option. Submitted without selecting a version number. Made a point to mention 16.5 in my text.

I also went as far as to factory reset my RAV4's audio system to factory defaults using a secret maintenance screen...no fix there, either. This is getting pretty tiring.

I was at first blaming Apple…but when I connect CarPlay to my wife’s 2018 BMW…works like a charm…but that actually runs with Bluetooth…yet another corner cut by Toyota when building the so called “Infotainment” system. I’ll drive the wheels off my 22 RAV4 XSE hybrid…but the scaled back Bluetooth features are a REAL pain. Don’t really want to purchase any Amazon workaround…should’ve just been built into the $40k price tag vehicle from the beginning!

Same thing has been happening in my 2020 RAV4 Limited Hybrid since mid-summer. I'm unsure if it is an Apple issue or a Toyota one, though because it happens in my car for both my phone and my husband's, but does not happen in his 2021 Tacoma for either of our phones. I've tried a brand new Apple cable and have even taken it into Toyota. Toyota told me that they were unable to recreate the problem, so there was nothing they could do. Lovely. I'm also now on IOS 17.0.2, and it's still happening!!!
